Director: Sara Fattahi, Syria/Lebanon 2015, 98 min., Arab. with En. ST
Three generations of women, a grandmother, a mother and a daughter are stuck in their flat in besieged Damascus day in and day out. While the two older women are afflicted by the demons of their past, the daughter finds concise pictures for the state of inner and outer stagnation of life in Syria. Oscillating between intimacy and dissolution these pictures are structured by repetition: coffee, TV, the Quran and cigarette breaks. Awarded in Nyon, this documentary is Fattahi’s feature debut.
