Director Raed Andoni fights the ghosts of the past – he was a prisoner in the notorious Israeli Moskobiya interrogation center as an adolescent. 30 years later, he composes a group of former prisoners that have been detained at the same place. With the use of theatre techniques they reconstruct the infrastructure of the prison in an abandoned parking lot, they build prison cells and discuss interrogation methods. Reality and reenactment merge in a way that reveals the men’s psychic and physical limits – and that lets suppressed thoughts break ground. This striking study of imprisonment as an existential experience has been awarded the documentary award at this year’s Berlinale.
